The supermarket adopted Mankate’s Pre-Tensioned CFRP Plate Prestressing System to reinforce beam-column joints using a minimally invasive approach, improving structural safety and durability without interrupting commercial operations.
Unlike traditional methods that require extensive slot cutting and may damage the original structure, the system utilizes a corrugated-tooth anchorage system to achieve an ultra-thin (5 mm) bonding interface between the anchor and the concrete surface, completely eliminating the need for slot cutting. This innovation reduces adhesive consumption while optimizing load transfer paths.
The wedge-and-arc transition design ensures that the CFRP plate remains aligned with the structural axis during tensioning, preventing stress-induced tearing caused by uneven load distribution.
Mankate’s CFRP plates are manufactured from Toray T800 carbon fibers and high-performance resin, offering 50-year resistance to moisture and thermal aging. With tensile strength exceeding steel by more than 10 times, they provide lightweight, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant performance, making them particularly suitable for humid environments.
Based on the “active reinforcement” concept, cracks were first sealed through grouting, followed by the progressive application of prestress using hydraulic tensioning equipment to form an active support system. This significantly improves crack resistance, enhances structural performance, and increases crack closure effectiveness.
